Message from President Swapna Prasad – Rotary Club of Crows Nest -16/07/2014

Hello everyone,

It is truly a privilege and honour to take the position as President of our wonderful club. I am truly humbled to join a large family of service Rotarians around the world whom can make a difference to someone’s life with the work we do as members of this remarkable organisation. A very big thank you to those members whom were able to attend our Change Over at the Northbridge Golf Club on Monday night. It was a great night and we had the pleasure of District Governor Ian Scott and his wife, Past District Governor Jennifer Scott attend. We also had our Assistant Governor Bhuvan Unhelkar and District Governor Elect Gina Growden in attendance.

It was a most memorable evening as we had Paul Harris awards given out to a number of worthy recipients for their outstanding service to our club. Congratulations Cyril Clark and Paul Ogden. We also recognised the contribution of our club members for their wonderful contribution during the Rotary Convention held in Sydney- Harold Sharp, Angelo Raveanne and Tom Sweeny. It is important to note that Harold Sharp and Angelo received Sapphires. Congratulations on your marvellous achievement.

The night would not be compete without the induction of three new members to our club- Tiffiny Kellar, Barbara Bartlett, and Lenise Appleyard. Please do join me in giving these lovely ladies a very warm Crows Nest Rotary Welcome.
We said farewell to Bruce de Graaf whom had another successful Rotary year. We thank him for his wonderful work and service.

The Rotary theme this year is to Light Up Rotary – shed light to those areas that need our help!

As a policeman shines his torch as he investigates a crime- we at Rotary will work together to shine the light on things around the world that go unnoticed – that remains in the dark and bring them to light of the world.

It is imperative we continue to carry the light into the dark corners of the world – let us be the lanterns of light for goodwill and humanity.

I have a simple strategy that involves 3 things:

1. Provide the hands of help and fellowship to help where we can – working together to help great causes locally and around the world- we volunteer our time.
2. Raise money to provide assistance to people who need it – whether that be through Rotary led projects or help great charities and other community organisations work towards a need.
3. To provide our experience, knowledge and expertise by mentoring other organisations on how to build their foundation to be sustainable – give them a hand to build good program’s that can be reputable, globally recognised organisations.

We will continue to provide assistance locally and internationally to projects with water, health, education, disaster relief and other great humanitarian work.

We are having our first board meeting next week to confirm our committees and our initiatives for the year ahead.

We cannot do the wonderful work we do without our members. Please feel free to talk to me about anything -I would love to hear your views and thoughts throughout my Presidential year.

Let’s make this year an enjoyable and successful one.

I look forward to seeing you all at our next meeting on Monday.
